Murphy Funkhouser

Murphy has been writing and performing theatre since the age of 3 (when she was Peppermint Patty in pre-school).

She went on from the La Petit Academy to study theatre at the Brevard Conservatory and the University of Tennessee before wandering (a bit) off the path (living in her car), becoming a single mother and finding herself (somehow) in the mountains of Colorado.

In the Summer of 2006 when Denver Director Christopher Willard proposed a one-woman show, Murphy blurted out, "Well, surely I can pull something out of the bag"...

And like a steamer trunk falling from the sky, Crazy Bag landed.

In May of 2007, Crazy Bag premiered at the Colorado Theatre Festival winning multiple awards.

It opened as a World Premier at the Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge in June, 2007.

In June, 2008, Crazy Bag will open at the Vintage Theatre in Denver followed by a tour of Albuquerque, San Fransisco and Oklahoma City.

Through the writing and performance process, Murphy has touched lives, including her own. 

Approached by people wanting unload their own excess burdens, Murphy decided to create the "Crazy Bag" workshop to be held in conjunction with all Crazy Bag performances.

Murphy dreams of a day people everywhere throw their baggage out the windows in celebration of this show.

She urges people NOT to call it baggage. 

But, instead to simply say... "Well TRAVELED".

Christopher Willard (Director) was a graduate fellow in the Syracuse University Drama Department.   An award-winning writer and director, he is the artistic director of the Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge, Colorado.
